Experienced Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort guests know that part of the legendary “Alisal Experience” are the stories with which they leave our property after staying. More than just great “hospitality’, we realize that every interaction with a guest is a chance to create a memory that will last a lifetime. That’s a lot of pressure (phew!), but when you love what you do, it’s quite easy. When we hear from our guests about their unique Alisal guest experience through their own story, we are elated. The Alisal legacy is born of multiple threads of stories like this one , which contribute to the rich tapestry of making Alisal history what it is and is the foundation of what keeps our guests coming back year after year, generation after generation.

On one of our first visits, summer 2006, we booked a guided fishing outing on the Alisal lake. My son, who was ten, had always wanted to fish but had never been. We got up early, while it was still dark. and caught the van for the winding trip up to the lake. The Spanish moss was dripping from the oaks. a bobcat stalked prey in a meadow, deer dashed for cover as we came near. Further on, as the sky brightened, we could see hawks circling above. By the time we arrived at the lake the dim morning light was just cutting through the morning mist lying over the water. It gave the lake a soft, etherial and mystic quality.
Jason Gupp was our guide that morning and I took this picture as my son stood on the dock watching him prep the bass boat. He loved the fishing and had a wonderful day. It was one of those defining moments in a young life. We have been fishing many times since but, if you were to ask him, he would tell you, his affinity and love of the sport, began that day.
Now, when I think of Alisal, I see this image and remember a very special time. -Craig Townsend
